Buddha Palm Thai Bodywork Training

About Thai Bodywork
The origins of traditional Thai massage can be traced back at least 2,500 years. It is an ancient form of therapeutic healing
that has roots in Indian Ayurvedic medicine. The founding father of Thai Massage, Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, was a celebrated yogi
and a doctor in the healing tradition of Ayurveda who treated, among others, the historic Buddha. The Thai bodywork practitioner
guides the recipient through a series of yoga inspired postures while palming and thumbing along the body's energy meridians
and acupressure points. Together these actions result in a comprehensive full body treatment that can relieve muscular tension,
improve circulation, improve immune function and balances the body energetically, physically and spiritually. Thai Bodywork
is performed on a mat on the floor; both client and practitioner are dressed in comfortable clothing allowing ease of movement
and flexibility. No oils or creams are used.
The Buddha Palm Method
The word Buddha means Awakening or one who is Awake. As such ‘Buddha Palm’ means “Awakened touch”
which is the spirit of our trainings and our work. The Buddha Palm form emphasizes using the least amount of effort to
achieve maximum results. Training focuses on the development of appropriate biomechanics and positioning of the practitioner.
There is also strong emphasis on safety and flowing transitions between postures and techniques. Perhaps the most important
element in the practice of Thai Bodywork is to bring a spirit of loving-kindness and compassion to our work. This is made
possible through the practice of Mindfulness meditation. With spiritual awareness we generate our natural healing abilities
and develop genuine joy that rises from within. Buddha Palm is an integrated approach that honors the traditions of Thai
bodywork and the strengths of Western approaches and sciences. As such special attention is given to the effects bodywork
on the skeletal, circulatory, neuromuscular, myofascial and nervous systems. Buddha Palm teaches a form of Thai
bodywork that addresses the preferences and needs of Western society. People in the West tend to overuse their back, neck
and shoulders and need more attention in these areas than traditional Thai bodywork is meant for.
